glenatronWe went to visit Zorro again today. He's still totally awesome.
It sounds like he'll be able to come to stay quite soon - maybe next weekend if we can get our helpful transport friend to drive him over, otherwise slightly at the whim of the fates (and helpful transport friend) as to when he can come and stay.
It was a real pleasure to be doing stuff with him again and I was starting to notice things we will need to work on over the months after he arrives- his groundwork is lovely; light, responsive and full of try. He really wants to get things right. He sometimes thinks he could maybe get a little closer than is really sensible and maybe thinks he could do a bit of shoulder barging but he is generally quite polite and the personal space stuff is nothing too hard to sort out.
What I found interesting is that the rules change completely once you're in the saddle- he will yeild his head to a soft feel on the ground, but holds it absolutely stiff and braced when you make the same request while sitting on his back doing everything he can to resist any kind of ask. I think this is likely to be our first big bridge to cross, assuming moving house doesn't flip him out too badly.
Zorro won the Nobel prize as he was out standing in his field.
Zorro and I enjoying the view from his school, which is very impressive. Actually, Zorro was really taking in the view. I would have been quite happy for us to just keep going at that point...
It's hardly fair to expect a horse to stay the right way up the whole time, not when there's a whole school full of sand to roll in.
His coat is a bit heavy for the weather and he is shedding fluff like anything. Hopefully he will be rid of it by the time he arrives. I am one of life's optimists...
I'm really excited about having a horse again. Also, I'm really sunburned. Entirely worth it.
