The thaw begins
5 December 2010 00:33Today we woke up and half the snow had gone. The temperature has shot up a whole lot and it seems to be staying reasonably warm ( well above zero at any rate ) overnight.
I was thinking to ride out today, but when we went down to the school to get warmed up ( Zoggo was a bit grumpy about not going out when Small did ) it was slushy and slippery on the yard and wasn't going to be great riding up the road or down any steep hills so we just played in the school a bit.

Anyone who wonders why we bother working so hard on the details of controlling the horse's feet would perhaps understand when they saw the word "ARSE" spelled out neatly in horse footprints on otherwise pristine snow. I would have taken a picture but, like the Nazca lines, the effect only really worked from the air, and I didn't want to annoy Zorro enough that he'd help me with that. I have learned about snowy landings already this year.
