Today we rode in the field for the second time and [livejournal.com profile] herecirm had a camera and so we posed by riding along a sunbeam.

Grey horse riding in sunset
Pretty mare.

Iris in the field
It won't be an enormous step for her to become a pretty impressive dressage horse, we'll just need to build a lot of confidence and a lot more softness from her poll backwards. It will be easier with something more practical on her head...

Riding up a sunbeam
If in doubt always charge the photographer.

Rider in the sunset
Posing, again. This mare is worthy of showing off and these summer evenings will not last forever- in fact this is the first time in about five years we have had a summer that felt remotely summery, so it deserves celebrating.

I'm really pleased with her. We had a couple of little humpy bucks yesterday but she was just out of balance. Pretty great horse.

Magic! She has the paces for dressage, no question.

Could I ask about your saddle pad? Is it an integral part of that saddle, or something you can buy separately? I'm looking for something to replace my ancient Impact pads which are no longer made...

What I have there is the Cavallo western pad, the non-Monty one as I don't want to accidentally be giving that unsavoury man money when buying riding gear. They do English pads too (http://www.cavallo-inc.com/us/English-Saddle-Pads) but you might do better with something like a Grandeur pad (http://grandeur.de/en_shop/e_site.php) - those are pretty good in my experience.

Most of his story is provably lies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse_Whispers_and_Lies) and Join-Up is just a way of flooding a horse. He pushes mechanistic training techniques that rely on making the horse do what you are asking for and endorses products like the "Be Nice" pressure halter- which is studded around the pole to make it painful for the horse in use. None of which is necessary at all.
