Today I rode two ponies.
One was a little bit spooky and slightly unhappy to be out in the rain but smooth, willing and attentive and felt great to ride. Really didn't put a foot wrong.
The other was also unhappy to be in the rain, a bit keen to grab at any greenery and somewhat distractible. When we got out onto a junction between trails where turning left went home and turning right went off on a longer loop, I asked to go right and found myself in the Surrey South-West rodeo championships. I stayed on, but on that first big buck - the one with the explosive power and the bit of extra twist and drop of the shoulder - it was a close run thing. The ride from there back to the road was a mixture of briskly repressed bucking, passage and general stroppiness.
One was my nicely trained saddle horse. the other was the very green Xefira. I'm sure you'll have no trouble figuring out which is which...
