Since Joe had to go back into horsepital we've been very aware that he really couldn't stay on the yard where he's been living any more. He needs to be off the sand once and for all - another attack like the last one would very probably be the end of him.

After a lot of thinking and many deeply generous offers, we decided to take him over to live with our friend Kerin, Zorro's owner, who runs a livery yard near Tunbridge Wells. It's a couple of hours drive but we know he'll get the best of care and he'll be able to live out with her two mares in a well sheltered field with good grass, which will be pretty much Joe's idea of heaven.

So yesterday we packed him into a lorry ( we loaded by the classic method of [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse leading and me standing behind and pushing him ) and took him over to his new home. I suspect that there will be a full update from [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse when she's ready, but I got a set of pictures just after he arrived which are perhaps the photos I'm most proud of from all the ones I've taken.

It's sad that he's far away and we don't get to see our patchy pony every day, but I think he's going to do just fine there and at the end of the day, having a happy Joe is most important of all.

It's a fantastic location- big gorgeous fields, fantastic views and, in the field where he's going to be staying, a bunch of hard standing so he doesn't totally vanish into the clay when things get muddy.

Of course, being Joe, he will want to vanish into the clay and will roll until he appears to be a steel grey roan of some description...

It looks lovely, and I'm sure he'll be happy there. Knowing you guys, you'll have put a lot of thought into it and insisted on the best for him.

Another thing is that I reckon that every time you visit him he'll be really happy to see you, no matter when it is. I know it's different species and all, but Erin's cats remembered her after she'd been away for six months, which she was worried about beforehand. Turns out animals do have really long memories and some bonds don't fade.

So it really is true that animals get old and go and live on a farm. I'm sorry for you guys he's leaving but it does sound like he's embarking on an idylic lazy life of green fields and napping.

He totally is. He's also going to have girls around to bully him. He'll love that.
