We went to France. It was wetter than people would have you believe. Holidays with my family-in-law are more fun than average, if popular mythology is to be trusted. The car we hired ( a small Citroen) was an automatic, but still managed to change gear like a learner driver. Futurescope is a theme park that is just celebrating it's 20th birthday and hasn't had a lick of paint in the interrim. Probably looked great then, now some of it is a little shabby. That doesn't stop some of the not-rides being very entertaining.

There were lizards and noisy frogs and crickets and no real hurry to be anywhere, all of which made me happy. I may have drunk more wine in the last week than in the preceding two years.

We didn't visit La Rochelle aquarium. It turns out that visiting the only indoor attraction in western France on a rainy day was not an entirely original idea and hours of queueing up in intermittent rain with many squalling brats didn't appeal.

Getting by in french, even very ineptly, is very satisfying.

Saumur qualifies for it's own post.

Generally a really good week. The only slight downer being [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse managing to put her back out on the second to last day, so she's mostly out of commission at the moment. I'm sure she'll be fine soon, but I hate to see her uncomfortable.

I went to Futuroscope when it was new, it was very cool, I remember some kind of cinema with moving seats or something like that

The moving seat "not rides" were the best bit I think.
