The unexpected
14 February 2007 23:15My new belt finally arrived in the post last week, so today was my first lesson where I actually had a black belt. I didn't think it was going to feel any different to usual, but we only had a couple of students along and both my instructors found they had important things to do and left me to take the class.
Which wasn't what I expected.
The good news is that I think it went OK. Not great, but not terrible either and I think the students quite enjoyed it. Hopefully I didn't teach anyone anything that was palpably wrong and we stuck with the basics and simple extensions so I don't think it was beyond anyone.
A novel experience, at any rate.

Date: 16 Feb 2007 11:29 (UTC)I always hated training with black belts- I was always feeling like they would find me out somehow, like they'd realise I just didn't know anything. Now I am one and I still feel like that. I particularly hate being put on the spot and asked to demonstrate a technique, which I think is part of the reason my instructors suddenly had "something to do" and left me in charge of the class...
