This morning the lack of lightbulbs in the bathroom and consequent need to brush one's teeth by candlelight resulted in Lou covering her hand in burning wax from an exploding tea-light. No, we can't work out how that happened either. A rubbish outcome either way but the local A & E were very helpful and she now has a big bandage covering her left hand and can't do anything much.

tell her I hope she's OK and it'll get better soon

I've never seen a tea light explode before - it it something to do with a reaction between toothpaste and wax?

I don't think so. After a bit of trying to replicate it I found that a half-empty tealight in a tealight-size holder cup can be induced to flip over very easily if you give a moderately firm puff on it from a downwards at about 45 degrees angle.
