Decade: 1996-2006

glenatronWith a title like that I should probably either be listing the highlights of the last ten years or quoting the gay disco classics of Duran Duran, but I'll decline from both. It has been pretty cool being a twentysomething, although I am sure I wasted much time and many opportunities in that time, I certainly made some awesome mistakes, but in the long run the outcomes have been pretty good.
I'm no longer on a downer about tomorrow and neither am I going to give it excessive weight, although there are decisions that I have been postponing that I will have to face up to over the next few months. Instead, I shall think of it as thirty summers, and thirty good summers at that, and I shall enjoy the fact that in a way I have achieved my objectives- I play in a signed band and I am only one grade off being a black-belt ninja, my fifteen-year-old self would be proud.
My first gig with Sequoia was two years ago tomorrow, Gwyn, Lucy and Tom turned up unexpectedly which was a fantastic surprise- I still have the brilliant "They Didn't Have One With Your Name" candle they bought me from a service station on the M4. I don't know how many we have played since then but I'm figuring that it will be upwards of fifty by now and we have another one tonight, back at The Horn in St Albans, supporting a Beautiful South covers band, which sort of makes sense if you listen to Andy's singing voice. Hopefully it will be a good way to round off my decade.
