The days are flickering by now, like cars on the other side of the motorway. That feeling like time and gravity have united to accellerate you towards a single all-consuming event. In my experience events like that are over remarkably quickly and leave you with a big space where all that anticipation used to live. At least in this case we get to go on holiday directly afterwards.

Last night was my Mum's retirement party- it was very good to see how many of her colleagues think she is a completely brilliant person. They are right and she was brilliant at her job, but she is so much happier retired. We travelled most of the way back from london in a car so full of flowers there was hardly room for us.

everything I know of your mum does suggest she is pretty amazing, and a very nice person.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to retire, though I would be bored senseless (can you be made senseless if you're not usually prone to sensibilities? - odd that). Not your mom, of course. Huzzah! another is freed from the daily grind!

When you've got as much to do as my parents have now I don't think you get too bored.
