Opera have just taken the advertising banner off the free version of their browser.

There is now absolutely no reason for anyone to be using any other browser. Opera is faster, lighter and more full featured than anything else out there. All the good bits of Firefox are ideas stolen from Opera and it's still about three years behind in the implementation.

Off you go, then.

I currently run firefox as my browser. It behaves well and I am happy with it.

Is opera that much better for a web-surfing monkey like me to go about the rigmarole of downloading and replacing firefox with?

No, well, sort of. I was about to buy it, so they have kind of given it to me for free when I was going to pay for it.

It's so good that I have been intending to purchase it for the last three years or so.

Firefox is not bad, Internet Exploder is very bad and Opera is excellent- that is where they stand on the browser scale. Things that are better include that opera will always open stuff in another tab unless you tell it not to, unlike Firefox where the reverse is true, and you can move tabs around- again something that Firefox lacks. That's before you get onto the really clever stuff like mouse gestures and the rest. I don't use those so much, but apparently they are good if you learn how to work them.

What is 4rthur.com and why does it need it's own extension?

its a message board thingy, loosly affiliated to b3ta. The extension point out new posts so you don't have to read through again

But does it let you remember all the pages you had open last time you closed your browser ot save sets of default pages that you regularly open so you can start up and open all of them at once?

That's pretty handy.

Most message boards have an "active since I last visited" page...
