Anarchy and the blues
5 July 2005 21:13Yesterday I went to the studio to catch up with where we are in the recording process and how things are going there - it was the first time I have heard the stuff that has been recorded since we cut the rhythm section parts and I was amazed. It sounds like us, playing our songs, but it is completely professional- the flourishes that the guest musicians have put on lift it up beautifully and the guitars and vocals are sounding fantastic. The whole thing is detailed but transparent and this was not even a rough mix, just something Damon, the engineer, had thrown together so we can record backing vocals.
Hearing the four songs we were working on last night I was struck by just how achievable this is. We are recording what is going to be a very good album, possibly a great album. Not by the standards of bands on the local scene or bands I have played for but by the standards of anything else that has been recorded. It will be on the shelves alongside the many fantastic records that I own and love and it shall be equal to any of them. All we need is that one stroke of luck- a bit of radio play, a couple of good reviews- and the whole thing genuinely could snowball. It's not something that you can expect or plan for, but having heard what we have so far I know that we will have done all we possibly can as musicians to give that dream a chance.
The album will come out at the end of September- we will be celebrating with a major gig here in Farnham on the 24th that should be possibly the ultimate rocking night out. I would think that people who exist and like things that are enjoyable would probably want to be at that show...
