Heavy snow started the day. We were able to get to the ponies alright but it was snowing enough that we saw a snowplough go past on the other side of the road and fifty yards behind it you wouldn't have known it had been through. The cars behind it were lucky though- further down the hill a jack-knifed lorry was blocking the southbound carriageway.

The road up to the ponies is a long, narrow, high-banked hill. We managed to get most of the way up there running largely on the hope that we wouldn't meet anyone going the other way as practically it was a little hard to stop. A few hundred yards from the yard, we met one of the other liveries coming the other way. They hit the brakes, we hit the brakes and I steered for the bank and we slowly crashed into each other. It was pretty slow and quiet bump but it squashed the corner of my car nastily and I'm going to need a new indicator and probably a new wing. So that sucks.

Probably as well that this went right of my budget really...

We do have some snowchains now, borrowed from my parents, so we shouldn't get too badly stuck, although we will get very muddy if they need to be fitted...

Argh! Glad bump was a minor one. I spent 3 hours this morning trying to do a 20 min drive - had to abandon car halfway down lane to yard as I couldn't get it up the first hill and walk rest of way. Only good thing was not hitting anyone! Had one minor slide but only into grass verge, thankfully. I am fervently hoping trip to yard is better tomorrow!!! Be safe!

Ouch. I'm glad it wasn't anything worse - but it's annoying enough, and I hope you have insurance that covers the car damage. (I learned, last year, that even minor metal damage cost horrible amounts to fix, and I'm really glad our insurance covered that.) Drive carefully - snow chains sounds like a really good idea - and I hope you stay safe through the rest of the snow!

It will be expensive to fix and technically we could go through insurance but it may work out more expensive because insurance is insane and no help to anyone- once you've lost your no-claims bonus and you have covered the excess you're already spending hundreds of pounds. At that point it will come to the balance between the value of the car and the price of repairs. I'll just have to get it quoted on.

Also if I report it to my insurers now they'll tell me not to drive the car and I won't be able to get anywhere until they can assess it. In this weather that will leave me carless for months and of our two cars mine is the one that works in snow so might as well keep it the way it is for now - after all, it matters less if I run into anything else by this point - and worry about it when the weather picks up. The damage is probably mostly cosmetic at any rate and while we can't go over 25mph anywhere it's no big problem...
