For much of the last week Hindhead has been covered in a relentless freezing fog that has left layer upon layer of frost on every leaf and blade of grass. Then, yesterday afternoon, the sun came out and all of the silver ice-blossoms covering the trees turned briefly to gold.

Hoarfrost and Holly
Shining holly leaves.

Beech twigs and hoarfrost.

The frost has mostly melted now, I think, with a little more sunshine. We still have snow in the garden though, icy and crystalline but still very much present. This is unusual for December here.

Unusually wintery for an English winter. Normally it just drizzles.

I think the colours are really strong here - I'm on a borrowed camera ( one that can focus, but also drains the battery as long as there is a battery installed ) and it takes different pictures from my regular one. Normally I find it a bit oversaturated but for this it works.

I was glad to have the day off so I could run off and take some pictures.
