buymeaclue's comments a few posts back, along with some things that
sleepsy_mouse was talking about a couple of days ago, got me thinking and today Zorro and I went out on a brief jaunt around some places that he has, in the past, been fairly anxious. I made a deal with myself that neither of us would stop the other- if he spooked or got worried or whatever, I would direct if necessary but I wouldn't bring us to a stop, if he decided to stop I would try to catch it before it happened and get us going again.
It was a fairly calm evening anyways so he would quite possibly have been fine, but we trotted most of the way around the route and whenever he wanted to stop and eye up some distant object I just pushed on a little and kept him straight and listening to the rein and really we had no problems at all. Made for a very pleasant ride. also knocked about fifteen minutes off the time it took for the same circuit last time around...
sleepsy_mouse is planning to document how things go with Small on her journal over the next few months. It's hard to find anything encouraging about the likely diagnosis of Small's problems, but we're holding on to hope because what else can you do and because Small is perky and adorable and hungry and busily endearing himself to all the staff at the veterinary hospital...
