Tiny steps
6 April 2010 22:41So just a little thing today- enjoying having light to ride in after work. Right at the end of the session we got our first ever rollback and immediate strike off into canter.
As you might expect, there was nobody around to see it. But cob and I, we know it happened.

Date: 7 Apr 2010 15:52 (UTC)I keep meaning to post notes from our session the other weekend, but don't have internet at home, so I'm not managing to find the time very well; however, Marco is now recovering well, and we've started riding him again, slowly, slowly but he's holding up in a good way now that his shoes are back on, so fingers crossed!
We've both been practising and the backing in particular is starting to have moments of loveliness - we've got something really nice and light on the ground (mostly) now with this, and it's starting to come under saddle too which is brilliant - he still gives me a couple of tries lifting his head and bracing, but if I ask softly enough, I can now also get an occasional immediate lovely soft sway backwards, which we're trying to build into a couple of steps! We're also working on our lateral - which is more my timing issue than his, but we'll get there!
Will definitely be in touch about booking another session! Hope all is well with you and L - how is Small?

I can see you and Marco making some really good progress this year. You're really soaking this stuff up and Marco is finding it very easy to follow.
I keep meaning to talk a little about Rollo as well. He's an interesting character...

Date: 8 Apr 2010 18:50 (UTC)Thank you for the kind words! He seems to really enjoy it - I guess because it makes sense for him, and he is very appreciative now I've started asking in a volume level that he finds more appropriate! I'm enjoying it too - which helps! - and I think it's partly because I've done a lot of reading and this really feels like it's crystallising a lot of stuff that had been hovering near for a while - so, very satisfying.
Would def be interested to hear your thoughts on Rollo - possibly a discussion to take to email? ;-)
