It snowed in October for the first time in my life. That was pretty chilly.

The cold snap persists and when we got home from ponies last night it turned out our corner of town had no electricity. By the morning most of the area had it, but our street was still dark. We're lucky that we have lots of candles around and we cook off gas, but its anxious in terms of tropical fish - 18 hours of power loss is not going to do them any good. Good job we go the house insulated and the windows replaced last year though, we would have been intolerably cold if it wasn't for that...

In Canada, we put up a layer of see-through plastic shrink-wrap sheeting over the windows so that more heat stays in. Also we get squeezy tube guns full of temporary sealant gack and use that as well.

Consider looking down your local DIY store for these things.

Well it's not such a problem now on account of having almost new and fairly high-rated double-glazing and cavity walls, although we need to fill the attic with more fluff, no question.

We were using that when we had the single glazing and I was working from home, though. That was teh sux.
