This evening when I went to give the ponies dinner the sun slipped below the banks of dark, thundery clouds and did some serious showing off.

Ponies Autumn and Barnaby pose for just long enough to take their picture.

Small looks wistfully into the sunset. Oh how the camera can lie. Small was actually wondering what on earth I was doing and why I hadn't brought his dinner yet.

Filly lives on our yard and she is one of the sweetest and prettiest horses you could ever hope to meet. I've got a real soft spot for her.

Filly in profile. I wish she didn't have a halter on, but unfortunately she prefers showing off her elegant paces over being caught, particularly when her owner's other half is responsible for bringing her in at night...

Oh, also I notice that neither [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse or I has posted any of these pictures from a ride out last weekend:

Classic English village, anyone?

Riding out onto the common.

I was off to cut a corner to try and get some cantering pictures from in front of them rather than my usual pictures of Small vanishing into the distance so I took the opportunity to get a picture giving more sense of scale.

There aren't many places in this part of England that offer this kind of space for riding out on. I know that some of you have whole mountain ranges to yourselves, but for a crowded corner of our crowded island this is doing pretty well...

Are they Boa Hoof Boots I spy?

And I love that you know a pony called Barnaby :)

Barnaby is amazing - he's 35 or thereabouts and pure character! He's still doing light ridden work with small children and can be so impossibly cheeky!

The boots are Cavallo Simple boots - they're wonderful! So easy to get on and off, don't move or slip - we've had that pair for about a year now, and they're still going strong.

Awww, reminds me of a wee school pony I know in her 30s, still does RDA, and wanders about the yard loose. It's so funny to see all the bigger horses letting her boss them about :)

Ahh, we were looking at them but they were proportioned badly for Ranger's blooming feet.

Hope your recovering quickly :)

Or "Barnabeast" as he is widely known.

I love all the pink! Your and Zorro's gear is mostly pink too, right? Fabulous! :>

Small has such a nice face.

Yes indeed- we're all about the pink hi-vis. It's not really that necessary out on the common, but there is narrow and shady lane between the yard and the bottom of the village and people do tend to drive somewhat briskly.

Asher and I are at the in-laws on Saturday, if [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse is feeling up to it we thought we might be able to come over and say hello.

That might work out quite well actually - we were supposed to be at Badminton this weekend, but as you might imagine the chances of her being up to it are fairly slim...

I would happily steal her, only I think it would be rather obvious if I did...

It was just amazing. Much better than this evening which was strongly oriented towards torrential downpour.

We do have- we're very lucky in that respect. If you're ever passing you should totally stop by for a cup of tea and some cake :)

Beautiful pictures, Ben. I might have to print one or two, if you don't mind.

Thank you. They are all hosted on my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/glenatron/) so if you do want to print any of them out you will be able to find better resolutions there.
