What I do like...
21 January 2008 21:47We watched The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe on Saturday night. Two points:
- Considering that he was riding as a unicorn with neither bit nor bridle (which is, of course, how one is supposed to ride a unicorn) it seemed to both of us that Peter ought to keep off it's goddamn mouth! Laziest paintshopping-out of a bridle ever.
- As an agnostic who has recently watched The Golden Compass I couldn't help but feel they could have watered down the religious alegory somewhat. It could be offensive to some.

Date: 21 Jan 2008 22:23 (UTC)You mean they've watered down the religious aspects in Northern Lights (Golden Compass my ARSE *stomps around ranting*), or The Lion, The Witch...? I certainly agree with the Philip Pullman film, anyway. Nicole Kidman was quoted as saying she was a Catholic, and didn't think it was anti-religion at all - clearly, she has not read the actual books. :|

Date: 22 Jan 2008 03:37 (UTC)I still need to get the His Dark Materials books to read. I've completely overlooked them for years and now that a movie's come out, I feel like I'd be bandwagonning to pick them up. Still, I'm interested in seeing what the whole religious hoopla is about since I completely missed any sort of Christian allegory in the Narnia books until I read them again in college (and then I only noticed because a roommate said something). And this is coming from someone who spent 12 years in the Catholic school system, albeit in America. Yes, I'm a bit clueless sometimes.
EDIT - sorry about the apparent double-posting. I messed up some HTML code and silly LJ doesn't allow edits, so I had to delete and try again.
