Meme stolen form [livejournal.com profile] skiesfirepaved: Go to iTunes or whatever you use, and put it on random. Write your favorite lyrics from the first ten songs it goes to...if it is an instrumental track or in a foreign language you don't understand, skip it and choose another.

The Sea Captain - Sandy Denny
The sea captain he loved the ocean,
But his ship was on fire.
His hands they did stretch out before him,
For to take one of many desires,
But there was no time.

Unemployed In Summertime - Emiliana Torini
Unemployed in summertime
I've only just turned 21, I'll be ok
Unemployed in summertime
Don't need money 'cause we're young
I'll just stay awake till the morning
With make up all over my face

Soma - Smashing Pumpkins
So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me,
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world,
When god sleeps in bliss

And I'm all by myself
As I've always felt
And I'll betray myself
To anyone

I Ride In Your Slipstream - Richard Thompson
I ride in your slipstream
I wear your reflection
I echo your heartbeat
In the wind

Iowa - Dar Williams
I've never had a way with women, but the hills of Iowa make me wish that I could,
And I've never found a way to say I love you, but if the chance came by, oh I, I would,
But way back where I come from, we never mean to bother,
We don't like to make our passions other peoples concern,
And we walk in the world of safe people, and at night we walk into our houses and burn.

(How can one choose any part of a Dar Williams lyric prior to The Green World? They are all so perfect!)

Revolution - Unbelievable Truth
is the revolution worth the pain?
when to all intents we stay the same?
did it ever happen anyway?

Home - Foo Fighters
Echoes and silence
Patience and grace
All of these moments
I'll never replace
No fear of my heart
Absence of faith
All I want is to be home

Sweet Sweet Man (Part 3) - Tindersticks
So they put me down, back where I started from
But where I started seems so high
I start to climb

(that actually is the whole song)

Neighbourhood 2 (Laika) - Arcade Fire
Alexander, our older brother
Set out for a great adventure
He tore our images out of his pictures
He scratched our names out of all his letters

Is It Wicked Not To Care - Belle And Sebastian
Skipping tickets making rhymes
Is that all that you believe in?
Wearing rags to make you pretty by design
Rusting armour for effect
It's not fun to watch the rust grow
For it will all be over when you're dead

I have some really excellent music in my collection.

I used to love Smashing Pumpkins! ^-^ No wait ... I still do. :D "Disarm" ftw. Oooh ... I have a song by Emiliana Torini ... think it's called "Summerbreeze"? Mebbe.

Maybe called "sunny road"? Next to that on the same album is a cover of a Sandy Denny song from the same album as my first song, which was a co-incidence.

Billy Corgan is one of my favourite guitarists- he has a knack for creating amazingly assonant solos with these huge broken intervals that somehow still amazing.

An excellent collection, sir.

Saw Arcade Fire live a few weeks ago here in Cardiff - was all fanboi and went early to get up front and it was so worth it; they are a sensational live band. Plus they did a Violent Femmes cover :D

Makes me look like a total indie boy, which is accurate I guess.

You know you're proper indie when you go to see Arcade Fire and you're pleased that they play a Violent Femmes cover. That's indie to the core.

Which is funny because emo was the new indie for a while there.

It important to retain elitist indie snob cred, especially when covers are concerned.

I went to see obsure New York outfit Asobi Seksu a couple of weeks ago and was delighted when they played a cover from Mazzy Star’s lead singer Hope Sandoval’s equally obscure solo album.

Respect! I'm not sure I would have recognised a cover from an ex-Mazzy Star solo effort.
