The Guardian talk to the Pride family, who own the farm subject to the Foot & Mouth outbreak. Never thought Woolfords Lane would be in the national news. The world has gone mad.
the INTERNATIONAL news, mate! i heard on the radio that australia has decided NOT to get a strain of F&M over here to work on a vaccine due to a possible error at a research facility causing the current outbreak!
i totally thought of you guys when i heard that!
anyway, i was aghast that our govt even considered it... we are VERY extremely lucky in this country - we have such stringent customs/quarantine laws... glad they are wary of making a mistake such as that.
This looks to have escaped from a lab- they're very stringent in their biosecurity measures, but it looks like it wasn't enough. One theory I heard on the BBC was that something got into the sewers because of a minor slip-up at the lab and then the heavy rain and flooding meant it got out to the cattle. It would be a series of very unlikely and unlucky circumstances if that proves to be the case...
