glenatronToday we actually went out on horseback, got to where we wanted to get to, turned round and came back on horseback. We had no trauma, no stopping and we even found a brief gap between rainstorms in which to do it.
The architect of this success story was competent Liz from the yard, who came along with her mature (if quirky) mare and provided the kind of no-nonsense forward-going qualities that gave our two boys the confidence they need to just pad along happily.
We only went about a mile in total, but as Othello hasn't been doing much ridden work until the last week or so and it was all on the hill, that was probably enough from his point of view. Joe didn't even decide to walk off backwards at any of his regular stopping points, he just padded along like the paragon of virtue he always assures us that he is.
I'm really happy about the whole thing. A success!
