glenatronThis week I have been mostly suffering from something that makes me very sleepy, gives me a headache and makes me want to chuck. I'm hoping it will go away soon, cos it's not really much fun and I really need to be dedicating my time to paid work rather than lying about feeling ill. In the last five years I've taken very few days sick, now I don't have any paid sick leave I suddenly find I'm ill half the time- where is the justice in that?
Also I went to the dentist yesterday, for the first time in ten years, and he said I needed fillings. The last thing I expected to happen. Still, 30 years on your own teeth isn't a bad result and I'm thinking metal teeth count as a cybernetic enhancement.
Since we got married it was inevitable that it would happen sooner or later and sure enough yesterday I managed to lose my wedding ring. Useful advice for anyone going to get married- if you aren't accustomed to wearing rings, get one that feels like it is way too tight because one that feels comfortable will turn out to be too loose and liable to fall off if your fingers are cold. Don't worry about the thing where you get the ring stuck on in the jewelry shop- they're used to it and they'll know how to sort it out.
All in all, a rubbish week, the only mitigating factor being that I read Mary Gentle's 1610 - A Sundial In A Grave which is a really good historical fantasy combining swashbuckling french duellists, devious plots, cross-dressing and samurai. Strongly recommended.
