That was a pretty good weekend, really. Thursday night wen't fairly well and I was very surprised and pleased when [livejournal.com profile] life_of_tom and [livejournal.com profile] kittyfantastico turned up in the venue. They stayed over Thursday night, and came out with us in the afternoon when we took ponies out on an expedition- we didn't get as far as we would have liked but we went as far as they could cope with; we couldn't have asked any more of Othello. In the evening my brother came around and we had Tacos - Tom had to get to work so I took them to the station and when I got back Gwyn ([livejournal.com profile] nohotashes), Lucy and [livejournal.com profile] shanks01 had arrived so the party continued long into the night. They all seemed very excited about the prospect of Serenity LRP. From the sound of it running round with toy guns shouting "bang" at people is the way forward.

On Saturday Lou's parents came over and took us out to lunch and then we all had dinner at my parents' house. I am now officially fat and well fed.

As so often happens after something that one has looked forward to for ages, I find myself at a slight loose end - I hadn't really thought past this weekend and suddenly life is continuing as normal.

Incidentally, if anyone shares my enjoyment of PC gaming and cheesy nineties Sci-fi then you may be interested by the prospect of a Babylon 5 space shooter - it's made by fans but the production values are very high. I can't decide whether I like it, though- turns out Starfuries are exceptionally difficult to fly.

Ooooh... updates....

I downloaded B5:IFH back some time in...uhh...2004, and I loved it to bits. As you say, fan-created but very slick.

I think the small number of missions was the biggest single limiting factor in the original release. They wanted to get the whole learning curve in and only had the resources to produce a limited number of missions, so there's a bloody steep learning curve. Also, the requirement to pack their entire plot arc into that limited number of missions makes for long missions. With no save points.

Starfuries are very hard to fly, but then they're supposed to be. With a bit of practice you can feel yourself improving - a couple of evenings took me from unable to take a single Raider to being able to wade through a squadron of them, but when you start to go up against other Starfuries (and capital ships - eeeep) it's a whole new game again. I just got cheesed off flying the same (long) missions over and over again trying to not die against constantly nightmarish odds.

But if they've released new mission packs... in-teresting.

I've been trying to decide which flying around space I'm going to persevere with while I'm in a sci-fi mood- currently I-War: Edge Of Chaos is slightly ahead of B5:IFH and X2, but it's a very narrow thing and probably in the long run the beautiful slow X universe will draw me in...

BANG! BANG BANG BANG!

There's no way this system can live up to our expectations.

It's gonna suck so badly.

Somehow I think that the way it sucks will be what makes it great...
