Happy Holidays!
18 January 2006 10:23Last night was the last night of the current leg of the tour - we've been doing a lot of gigs over the last couple of weeks and it's going to be really nice to have a bit of a break and take a breather. It's amazing how much work is involved in something that we do ostensibly for fun and it will be good news for me to concentrate on the kind of work that brings an income but we've played some great venues and I've managed to meet up with some cool friends.
Last night in Basingstoke was probably the smallest stage we have been on yet, especially as we had a violinist with us for a couple of tracks, to the point where I actually couldn't move at all being trapped between monitors, drumkit and a wall. Any movement in any direction would have resulted in something being knocked over or broken.
Funnily enough somewhere on the tour I forgot how to play Brand New Plan. I can remember what notes it is but I can't remember where I put my fingers. Half way through playing it (possibly in Bath) I suddenly thought "how do I usually do this?" and that was it, I had no idea. The strange thing is that it seems to have dislodged the way I used to play it from my brain and I'm going to have to practice a bit and try and rework it. Very curious.

And it is all about us
That's why we're at the front
You can't even smoke and play the flute
What's that all about?

Date: 18 Jan 2006 07:57 (UTC)The leader has done most of the rehersals and artistic interpretation and the conductor is the well payed guy who comes along for a couple of rehersals and the big day

Date: 18 Jan 2006 05:54 (UTC)Obviously, as someone whose musical roots are very much in the folk direction I'm pretty happy to have any violin going on at all. I've never seen anything get an audience going better than a set of tunes...
