Yesterday I caught the last train home. I hope it is the last train I ever catch anywhere.

The gig went really well- everyone seemed to be having fun and it was really good to see [livejournal.com profile] ramalam who I have managed to not be at the same events as for most of the year.

Get to Waterloo at about 12:15 to find they have stopped running late trains to Guildford, Alton or anywhere else useful for that matter. The only one going anywhere near the right direction is headed for Southampton and turning into a bus at Woking, which is close enough to home that Lou can pick me up but far enough away to be annoying. It doesn't leave untilf 1:05.

Get on train, it's full of people who are massively pissed after their christmas parties. Not hassley but very loud and hectic.

Train leaves late because there is no driver.

Train gets to Clapham and turfs out everyone who was going anywhere before Woking because the line is closed and they hadn't realised. Dicks. Then it sits around and announces busses to the other stations for about 20 minutes to make sure everyone is off the train who needs to be.

Train then goes non-stop to Woking, it's lucky we aren't stopping as the route takes in Staines, Derby, Paris Gare du Nord, Dusseldorf, Vladivostok and Virginia Water. The 40 minute train journey takes about an hour and a half.

Having arrived at Woking when the train was supposed to arrive Lou had to spend the best part of an hour waiting in the station pick-up area. She a hero but the rail company are zeroes.

In future I will endeavour to avoid travelling by train.

so about half as annoying as getting from my house to Llansamlet by bus- about 10-15 minute drive, takes about 3/4 of an hour, and over an hour to get home again

and if its after 6pm that's on the bus with the scariest people in swansea on it. And you've usually had to wait half an hour for the bus.

man i hate swansea buses

first time I went on a swansea bus I thought we were going to crash. Second time we did. I should've trusted my intstincts.

that bloody llansamlet bus! the most unreliable thing in existance, I'm fairly certain...
I quite enjoy train travel, when it works; I like letting the mind wander as new scenery passes by by me, and thinking 'look how nice that forest would be, if only there wasn't a big noisy train track by it'. If you actually have to be anywhere in a hurry, though, your hopes are in vain.
