So tonight I started working with Othello.

I just went into his bit of the field and put on a rope halter to get him used to it and check the fit. We spent a while standing together while he tested the limits of my personal space and I explained to him that I didn't want him to come too close- waving the rope around a bit and generally moving a lot until he pulled back a bit and rewarding that with stillness. He seemed to get the idea fairly quickly and we did a bit of walking along the top of the field. This mostly worked alright, but it's quite hard to work on a hillside because one of you is pretty much always down hill and it impedes both of your freedom to move. Tomorrow Lou should be along (she was being chiropracted today) and it should be a bit easier to get him out of the field (to get to the gate we had to go through the half of the field Joe is in and as they've only met over an electric fence this could be risky) and do some work on the flat.
I'm so filled with enthusiasm right now where horsemanship is concerned, it's brilliant. I'm sure I'll be bored of it pretty soon, so I'm going to do everything I can to make the most of this while it lasts...
In other news our record has appeared on Play.com, Woolys, MVC, Tower Records and even Tesco. More to follow...
