The girl I love had an anniversary to celebrate and as she hasn't visited the west country much and she is a big fun of crystals, fairies and new-age tat, there seemed an obvious place we could visit if we took a couple of days away:

Avalon Tower
This one - the Tor from the Avalon Orchard - feels like it's just a couple of filters away from being a Phil Rickman cover.

Scabious and Cheddar
Scabious and Cheddar. I think it's Scabious, anyways. It's definitely Cheddar.

Brambles And Cheddar
Another photo of everyone's favourite cheesy tourist spot. That afternoon we went caving. [livejournal.com profile] herecirm, being small and tough, is super-good at caving. Being large and increasingly portly, I really am not. My shoulders still feel like a potato that got mashed.

After a couple of days away, we came home via the New Forest and as we had a few hours in hand we took a little circuit around the national park and met some of the ponies living there. New Forest ponies in the evening light turn out to be tremendously photogenic:

This little group backlit themselves beautifully.

New Forest Evening 2
Chestnut baby horse.

A small pony among the blooming heather.

Walking at the end of the summer
I never met anybody I was more keen to celebrate than this one.

Lovely photos, and congrats on another year well spent.

I wish we had heather in America...

It was pretty great. The point where we went into a shop and the lady said "just to let you know there's a friendly wolf sleeping under that clothes rail, she sometimes makes people jump" won the prize for most Glastonbury thing ever.

It means marshy terrain and sandy soil, but it certainly has it's benefits at this time of year.

It's always a pleasure to travel with Sari and I really enjoyed making her birthday into something special.

Oh, that Cheddar. Was a little disappointed by the lack of cheese...

Wonderful photos! Especially the New Forest ponies looking all sweet and innocent and not at all like fiends in equine form.

We met some that were having a doze in the middle of the road, just calmly being completely in the way. It was pretty adorable, though I'm sure it's risky too.

We had lunch in Dorchester too and visited Fleet on account of Sari being a big Moonfleet fan, which is about as much Dorset tourism as I think I've ever done.

Aww, heather is such a beautiful little plant ... my area has loads of it!
And I love Sari's earrings in that last one!

That would be a great birthday present in and of itself!
