Cash for the weekend
30 May 2011 23:34A long weekend means quite a bit of Cash time, which is always a pleasure. Happily
sleepsy_mouse was around for photographicable helping...

On Saturday we tried him in Small's saddle. On Friday we had tried him in one that someone on the lane is selling, and we thought we would try this for comparison.

This was the first time I have tried him in a bit since he came to stay. I was just making sure he could follow a gentle ask on each rein before I got on.

Yes, Cash, I still have boots on...

Not bad for an early ride, I think. It seemed to me he was going really nicely.

Lest anyone forget that I have a real horse, here's the mighty cob. You can see it's early in the session as he is experimenting with pulling on me here. In general he does that a lot less now, but he still tries from time to time.

On Sunday I tried him in the saddle we tried on Friday, which is a Baines- a classy make and a really nice saddle. It's a good fit on pony, but it's a little small for me and very much not cut for male physiology unfortunately.

After a little while in the school I took him for a couple of laps of the yard so he could look at tractors and go over some different terrain...

Then we headed out the gate- Cash was great, very alert and interested but no spooks or anxious moments really.

Sun plus wind means epic windblown Zorro. The sun came out in the afternoon, once we had finished riding.

That also meant we didn't need our coats on. Leaving them where Small could find them and search for sweets in the pockets was perhaps a mistake...

Today we went out for a proper trail ride. Only a mile and a bit, but Cash saw joggers, a bike, a cross-bike, distant cows and a few walkers. He was a total star.

Marching up the trail. On the way back we met a group of eight cross-bikes. They were really polite and stopped for us ( in my experience motocross riders are the single most polite group on the trail ) and we just ambled past them. Considering that is his fifth ride since he came to stay with us, Cash is doing great.
Very pleased.
Also this little guy was on the start of my walk to the pub to meet my brother for his birthday:

Five miles from my house to the pub. It started raining as I left the house...
