From time to time I go on about what a great band Our Lost Infantry are. This is their new video and it's representative of what they do. Excellent stuff:

Also I am weird about mugs. I just noticed this earlier as I went to make a cup of tea and had to ferret through the mug shelf in the cupboard to find a suitable mug.

Unsuitable mugs include: Mugs that can only be used at the weekend, mugs that belong to [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse in my mind or in reality, mugs that just never get used, the Holy Grail.

Why do I categorise mugs so hard? And why is it so hard for me to change the category of a mug? The practical outcome is that I actually will not use about half of the mugs in the shelf.

I'm not completely sure this is normal.

It has to be normal if I do it too.

...right?

Definitely. After all, you are pretty close to being a pillar of the community. Indeed, I think you'll probably be able to tell people that they are normal and they will believe you.

Infinite cosmic power!

The singer wishes he was James Dean Bradfield. They are kind of like how indie music was ten years ago but being played by young chaps. Despite this cruel write-up, I guess they are ok ;)

I have mugs that are never used, they comfort by being there, ceramic rocks of solidarity on the shelf with me.

I don't hear James Dean Bradfield particularly there, though I guess he is in a similarly squeaky register. I'd say they're more of a family with bands like Grammatics and The Strange Death Of Liberal England. I like that you are making old-man music comparisons though- I remember when you were young.

What I find these days is that indie music doesn't really change anyways. Since about the mid-nineties you can take the cross-section of bands that are around and one of them will sound like pretty much anything you can think of. All that happens is the spotlight shines on a few different bands for a while and then moves on.

Its true, I am these days TWENTY NINE!

I use one mug, and my husband uses one. The rest (two shelves) are for guests, or for the few times when The Mug happens to be too far away to be fetched. Perfectly sane, I assure you.

That is pretty good going! My mugs can be circumstance dependent- for example there are some that are better for coffee because they are a similar capacity to the cafetiere while smaller ones are fine for tea and the smallest ones mostly get used for breaking eggs into ahead of poaching...

I never drink coffee. But it's true that I don't use The Mug for things like food preparation; it's a teacup. (However, I don't get that smaller ones are fine for tea part. My teacup at work has room for half a liter or so. :-)

Agreeing with the sane vote - I have very particular standards for what makes a mug OK but I have also defined the contents of my mug shelf so that the majority of the mugs fit that standard (because otherwise I don't buy them!) - however even within that I have favourites at any given time! Perfectly normal! ;)

I only have a few mugs that are not for general use, but it does seem odd that I have weekday and weekend mugs. Thinking about it they are hierarchical- I can use a weekday mug on a weekend but never the reverse...

Oh, that's a relief. I was just worrying the other day that it might be a touch strange to use the same mug for twenty years, and to carry on using it despite having knocked a large chip out of the rim, because it is my mug.

One mug for twenty years? It could well have become the Holy Grail by this point.

It turns out the Holy Grail is not dishwasher-proof. The flowery pattern on the outside has vanished.

This is true. The Holy Grail has lost it's gold bits.

Catogorising mugs is completely normal. Some just don't feel right unless used correctly.

It does seem to be a very common trait. I approve of this.

I am the Jezebel of the mug world, then ... I used to stick with my Rohan mug, but recently I have been flirting unashamedly with the 'tache mug my brother got for Christmas. My Uruk-Hai mug was discarded when it became chipped, and now languishes, unloved and unused, in a corner. I flit from mug to mug without a care for their feelings.

Although, going by your comment trend, does this make me the weird one?

Also, I can't decide whether I like that guy's vocals or not.

He's really great as a singer and performer I think, but I can see that he's probably a bit marmite as a vocalist. I know a few people who find him almost unlistenably strident.

Good point- there have to be seasonal mugs that can only be utilised at the appropriate time of year. Except for the monomugists, obviously.

When I was making my first cuppa at work this morning, I realised I can only use about a third of the mugs we have in the office. They're all exactly the same design and shape, but most of them are the wrong colour.
