The consultant showed me the x-ray of my shoulder with its entirely pony-appropriate "Z" shape collarbone and said really that needs surgery, which was broadly the conclusion I had come to. The operation is scheduled for first thing in the morning, a week tomorrow, so I have another eight days of discomfort to look forward to. Hopefully also time to move from anxiety to acceptance on the whole "having an operation" thing. After that, assuming things work out, it should be a much easier recovery.

Think about it like this. Once the operation is done, you'll be able to refer to your shoulder as 'Ben's Bionic Bone.'
