glenatron: (Emo Zorro)

With Small Pony still not being well enough for the extended adventures that he loves doing, we've been trying hard to think up interesting things to keep him entertained. On Sunday we brought a gym ball from home ( my old office chair ) to see what he thought of it.

He wasn't tremendously impressed- he went over and explored it, nudged it around a little and then looked at us in a "that's fine, now what?" kind of way.

Later on when I brought Zorro in ( mostly in the interests of using [livejournal.com profile] life_of_tom as a test subject for Zorro as a beginner's lunge horse ) we still had the ball around so we thought it would be fun to see what Zorro thought of it.

Apparently football is the kind of sport that cobs, especially cobs who really like stomping on stuff, are quite good at. It was one of those moments you really wish you have a video camera.

Fortunately, we had a video camera:

Good cob! A team of those in the next world championships would definitely make them more interesting!

Definitely. They talk about "eleven men on the field" but make no clear specification for the number of horses...

Haha! Bless him. Do you leave it in the field for them? I was thinking about getting something similar for Pepsi, but I don't know how interested she'd be.

In our field it would just roll down the hill and get stuck there, so we just brought it to play with when we were in the school. I think without us to tell them it was interesting the ponies would just sniff the ball and wander off. I suspect a snackball would be rather different...

Oh yes, I was forgetting that you had hills. Strange, magical things that they are.

Pepsi has a snackball, she loves it! Beatrice likes it too, though she hasn't really worked out that food comes out when she pushes it; she just likes kicking it around.

They're still waiting for you to come visit them :)

I might get altitude sickness! Would very much love to come visiting though. Will have to arrange something once I'm back in England...

Go Zorro! We always knew you were a football champion...

What kind of bridle is that? It looks very much like a Parelli bridle my mother owns...

Sage and I may have to try this now. We do have a ridiculously large ball we can play with, and we haven't ever tackled it under saddle. Hmm.

It's a $30 Reinsman western bridle. Possibly actually designed for a Bosal but works fine with the bit. Combined with a cheap snaffle and Silversand slobber-straps and mecate...

He's awesome. I have an idea about goalkeeping which may be very entertaining too...

Hee! Can't wait to see that - I would imagine something along the lines of cow-horses cutting cattle?! I think Zorro would be perfect for that!

Go Zorro! I love push polo--at least, that's what we've always called it. My lesson horses are pretty good at it, though we used to have one that would go along fine for a while, and then just kind of fall face first into the ball! He'd get right back up and keep on dribbling though. :)

I suspect Zorro will be more than happy to fight anyone who tries to steal his ball. There may be a chance to play with this more soon...
