Yesterday we had the chiropractor out to check on the ponies. Small needed a lot of bits and bobs adjusting after all the things that have been wrong over the last year ( and seem to be going wrong again ) which he found quite tough but seemed to understand the necessity of.
Zorro is in pretty good shape, which suggests our saddle is a decent fit- I was fairly confident of that anyway but after a year of using it pretty much exclusively if it was going to cause a problem I think it probably would have by now.
He has a slight curve that tends to turn up in his spine, probably a combination of uneven muscling related to an old injury ( he has a huge scar behind his left shoulder ) and the way he likes to demonstrate his airs above the ground in the field. Either way, it does seem to happen and straightening it out from time to time seems to help him free up a little.
Kind words from the chiro as well, saying that he is a completely changed horse since she first met us, very much more attentive and respectful of me. She said when she first met us she was a little concerned that Zorro would always have the upper hand because he's such an overpowering horse, in every respect, but that has really changed. As she only really sees them once a year she's in a good position to recognise that change and I'm really glad that she has.
