We have some new things this week.

These ladies have come to stay with us, exchanging eggs for bed and board.

Exploring their run, this hen decided to try sitting on top of the henhouse, flying back to the ground with all the grace and poise of a dropped log.

I have a new hat! Also a pony not interested in looking towards the camera or putting his ears forward...

Also one of these.

Aside from that a pretty quiet weekend. We had a riding lesson yesterday as well, were Julian worked us hard, and today we went for a ride. Small seemed very flat again and we're both quite worried that whatever was bothering him last year is returning. It just seems so unfair.

Zorro was a total rockstar and did really well.

HOLY MOLY...

IS THAT A HORSE VAN???? It's BEAUTIFUL O_______O;

Yes it is. Should just have enough room for both ponies, but it's so much easier to drive than the old lorry.

Hot. I wish they made more horse vans here. Probably would cost a pretty penny, but it's sure save me having to budget for BOTH a trailer and a truck.

I like that one so much. Bummer is, the nearest dealer is in Canada. Ontario Canada.

We went through the same maths- a trailer is cheaper but you need something that can tow it and that is likely to work out much more expensive, especially as you either need to run three cars or to drive it routinely. Given the price of fuel here ( approximately $1.75 per litre ) a large engine is a very costly proposition.

Also British roads tend to be quite twisty and it's easy to get in a tangle with a trailer- certainly most nasty accidents I've heard of with horses have involved a trailer rather than a lorry.

sweet! how much for the box and whats the payload?

Came in a little under two grand with repairs. It still needs the engine looking at properly and it may or may not be going to stall out inexplicably at any point, but it is a much more useable size.

Petrol, though. Who builds a petrol van?

I'll take the van first, then the chickens, and you can keep the hat OK!

Very generous of you.

The chickens seem to be doing well- we had first eggs waiting for us this morning...

Oh, chickens! I would love to have backyard chickens. I expect to hear many stories!

Snazzy new hat and horsebox, and hope Small is feeling better ASAP. What rotten luck.

I hope there aren't too many stories as they would probably involve the fox, badgers, neighbourhood dogs and other such terrifying beasts that we're hoping our fence contains enough electricity to dissuade from pestering the poultry...

When I was considerably younger and still living on a farm, my dad got us a single chook, for eggs. Then the agricultural college seemed to realise that you could 'magically' get money for eggs, and brought in a whole load more chickens for us to take care of.

Bit slow off the mark, sometimes, that college.

Well, they were an agricultural college. Can't expect them to know anything about agriculture...

Also, having seen that film and some of the beautiful stuff they get going there, it makes me sad whenever I see film of that great lunk sat on the same horse...

Chickens! How cute! =)

What is that truck thing?

Its our new horsebox. Only 3.5 tonne so much more manoeuvrable than the old blue bus and a bit more convenient in a lot of respects. The ramp is on the other side...

Bloods came back- his red/white cell counts are all out of whack again. D:

There is something going on here, the bottom of which we are not getting to.

oh no - really sorry to hear about poor little Small. :( Give him a big squeezy hug from me. :-*

I do like the new hat - very tasteful! Aren't you going to miss the Zebra print though? :D

And oooooooooo.... at the lorry. And awwwwwwwww! at the chickens. Chickens are great. :)

I will miss the zebra print, but it's worth it for the extra comfort and cooling air vents of the new hat...

I don't know yet, [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse has done all the driving. Easier than the big lorry we had before, I gather...
