glenatron: (Emo Zorro)

We'd been doing some work with a couple of ground poles, Small practicing being brave around them ( which isn't really a problem these days ) and Zorro practicing not stomping on them. At the end of the session we stopped and I looped my reins over the saddle horn and left Zorro while I stowed the poles back in the corner of the arena where they are kept. He just stood there, head low and neck relaxed, patiently watching and waiting until I finished and went back to him.

Its weird how they pick their moments like that isn't it? I was lunging Max when a friend came off him recently, he stopped dead, i dropped the line and he just stood totally still til we came back to him.

Good Zorro! (It's so practical to be able to do that.)

It really is. It's something I expect from a horse that knows their job, but Zorro is - among all the horses I have known - uniquely challenging in that respect. So when we get the proper working-horse stuff it feels pretty good to me.

It's how you should be able to work it always I think, but with a lot of horses we don't get to that point reliably - with Zorro I'm certainly not there outside the arena, but seems like we have a good start in one place at least...

What a good horse. :) Pepsi would have gone charging off to stuff her face with whatever food-like substance she found lying around ... but then again, you have photographic evidence of how well Pepsi and I don't work together.

Pepsi is just a supercool little horror mare.

It builds from this. Cool--you're on the first step.

If only the rest of the world was less... appetising.

I often wonder if its something Fresiams get the hang of from their working horse background..
