The last few days have been kick-ass hectic fun. After my birthday last week- we went to dinner at my parents' house and it was really pleasant- [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse and I took a few days off. On Thursday we went visiting in the rain, which was good fun, and tried to do some shopping for one of my birthday presents ( after about seven years we figure I could probably use a new riding hat ) but couldn't find anything good. Fine visitings nonetheless.

On thursday evening we had band practice and a potential drummer came along. I kind of hope he's our guy cos he can play and he seems like he'd be very easy to get along with. That would complete the band and we could really be something special I'm sure.

On Friday it was dry enough to ride a bit so we took the ponies out in the arena and did some schooling. They both did really well- Small stretching down and softening better than he has in ages in the arena, Zorro offering some great yielding stuff and hardly bucking at all.

On Saturday we spent a bit more time with the ponies- I took Zorro out for a short ride up the hill. He thought about taking me home so I took him home and put him to work some. After a couple more back-and-forth sessions we went on without him having second thoughts and had a very pleasant little circuit.

Heading up the valley, on the path that was repaired last year.

"I don't know if you had noticed, but it is kind of steep up there."

This part is totally flattened by the camera. If I had been holding it level you wouldn't be able to see the top of the track here at all. Zorro's back feels pretty awesome when we hit this point.

So this little guy, a roebuck with the velvet on his antlers, was just lying down in the forest. He watched us pass in a very unconcerned way. I'm pretty sure had I not been on horseback I wouldn't have seen him at all- either he would have gone or I wouldn't have had helpful mr furryears to point him out.

Saturday night we headed out to Cardiff and met up with a bunch of people in the Barfly, drank some beer ( or JD and coke in [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse' case ) and danced to some classic indie. Good times.

Sunday was [livejournal.com profile] baddynono and [livejournal.com profile] nohotashes' wedding. What an amazing day. If you're going to do the other kind of wedding to the informal party kind that we had then having top hats, tailcoats and canes, a church, a castle and a carriage to take you between the two, that's the way to do it.
Wedding horse and carriage

Everyone looked amazing, it was a great opportunity to see some kick-ass friends we meet way too infrequently and wedding snowball fights are awesome fun. Quote of the evening must be from Lucy: "Do you want to be the person who ruins my wedding dress by throwing snowballs at it? ... Because I totally don't care about trashing your suit."

Sadly we had to be off before the late night indie disco fun began because if we were to survive the drive home we needed to leave relatively early, but it was a truly amazing day and really good fun. Also about time, given that Lucy and Gwyn got together at least a year before [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse and I even met...

Right. I'll be loading a half-hitch of horses and one border collie on the next FedEx plane to England promptly. Those trails are to die for.

Ah yes, but they do only thread carefully through the small areas where there aren't roads packed with traffic. It would get small pretty small compared with what you're accustomed to very briskly.

The pony on the left really wanted to run the pony on the right just wanted to play bitey face with him. It was pretty cool.

I think people who incorporate horses into their weddings are brave. Sooo much potential for things to go badly there; also, it would just about guarantee me to mess up my dress as I simply can not be in horsey presence without petting said horse.

I want to ride those trails too. Must take photos of the trails Sage and I have nearby now and share...

Oh wow - I need to convince Elf to get a carriage like that. Also, lovely ride photos as always. One day you'll wake up and I'll have totally thieved all your pretty bridleways...

I saw a few weddings which had a horse and carriage when I was a kid and always wanted one after that.

I tried to keep my dress clean at first but there's just no stopping mud! I highly recommend doing whatever you want to on the day regardless of what it does to your dress! It's very good fun :o)

In a way it would have been worth getting something simpler than a carriage just so I could have said "It's a TRAAAAAAAP!"
