We got up this morning and found 13" of snow in the garden. I don't remember it ever snowing this intensely here. Quite something.

The back garden.

A birch tree against the pinewoods. The snow is hanging on the trees and they're starting to come down, which means a good chance of losing power later on. We can at least use the stove for boiling a kettle or cooking a slow casserole. It may yet come to that.

The view across the punchbowl. If only we had a toboggan here we could probably get the ponies out on that. As it is, we'll be walking. I wish I had gaiters. I suspect that we'll be improvising with bin bags and gaffa tape....

As I write this it has finally stopped snowing... oh wait, no, it's started again...

Fimbultastic.

What will you do if the power goes? Retreat to Rivendell?

(I'm so glad I have the opportunity to write that!)

Not so special to you guys, huh?

This is an unusually wintery winter for England - nobody can remember it's like and there's a chance there won't be a similar one for a long time yet.

You can use super tough bin bags as make-shift toboggans! I used to do that as a kid, when I didn't have a sled. Alternatively, just roll down the hill - it does look like a promising hill, and we have nothing to compare with it here.

Plus, proper winter! Enjoy it while it lasts.

apart from that, looks GORGEOUS.

Billions! If only we could invent some way people could work from home.

Anyone would think those numbers were totally made up...
