The burning heath

Thursley Common, one of the ones near where my parents live, is on fire. I can see the smoke from here (it's about 8 miles away) looking like clouds across the eastern sky. It's hot and dry and windy, which makes for about the worst conditions for controlling a fire although apparently most of the Surrey Fire Service are in attendance.

Although the fire is between my parents house and where the ponies live its currently a reasonable distance from both. There were massive fires across the whole area in 1976 - at one point my parents actually were evacuated that year so maybe this is a 30 year event...
