Stupid bloody cars
15 March 2005 22:40So it turned out our "bargain" car was in fact nothing of the sort. It is rusty to the point of collapse and we are lucky it didn't fall to pieces when we were driving it home. During my finals I wrote shorter essays than the MOT failure sheet we got on Friday. The previous owners clearly had no idea- when we got in touch they were absolutely amazed and kept saying things like "but I was driving it the other day" and "but we gave you all those receipts" all of which are doubtless true and none of which make the car roadworthy.
Did you know if you sell someone a car which is not roadworthy and say that it is roadworthy you are misrepresenting it and the buyer has the right to demand their money back? Ignorance is no defence either, so you can't even legally rip someone off by mistake. That may prove to be bad news for the people who sold us the car. Currently they simply cannot believe that a) there is a problem with the car and b) we have the sheer gall to complain about it. They have mostly been screaming down the phone at Lou, which is nice for her.
Another successful automobile purchase. If cars weren't so damn handy I wouldn't own one simply because I am so completely rubbish at buying them. Even when it's not me doing the buying I seem to have some kind of cursing aura that destroys any chance of someone near me purchasing a good second hand car.
The weekend was redeemed from being utterly miserable by the presence of Shiva which is one of the good things in life.
