So the shrub finally got himself elected as president of the United States. I suppose he was the only candidate for the job who had any experience and that counts for a lot in some interviews.
When I was studying for my degree, part of our Philosophy of Religion course discussed the idea that one person could be the devil to another in an entirely literal way. Not behave as the devil or be a metaphor for the devil but to actually be the devil. It is my belief that to many people on this planet, Dubya is the devil. There is a beautiful symmetry to the thought of the evangelical churches of the bible belt voting the devil into power.
No point worrying about it now, though- whats done is done and really a democrat president would have made a relatively small difference to what happens next. It is just another step in the decline and fall of the American Empire which began years ago and has years still ahead of it. We should probably be most concerned that Dubya manages to damage the american economy so badly that it collapses in on itself like a neutron star, taking the rest of our economies with it. I'm kind of expecting this to happen anyway when demand for oil outstrips supply but either way we should probably make the most of the luxury we enjoy now because its continuation is by no means assured.
