Could it be that the new Mark Chadbourn book is the first published novel ever to namecheck Clan McTaff?

That was one of the most unexpected things I have ever read in my life.

I have been recommending Mark's books for ages because I love the whole collapse of the modern world into ancient myth and magic scenario and they're generally outstanding modern fantasy, but they now get a double high-score bonus!

If you haven't read any of them, start with World's End...

i've often suspected it. given that the main thing about dealing with unexpected situations is the level of rationality and clear thinking you can bring to bear, i'd have to say that we'd get a bit of an edge in the first few months, and in coping with the sudden shellshock. others might catch on in time.
it is supposed to be what you do in the first twnety-four hours of a survival situation that's the most important, though. we'd certainly have the edge in the classic zombie scenario...
