So I finally got hold of a copy of the new British Sea Power album. I put it on a couple of times in the office this afternoon but this is the first time I've been able to listen to it properly. It's sounding good so far- a bit more laid back than the first album without the gonzoid charges into feedback-riddled self-indulgence and perhaps slightly more focused for it. Right now it sounds like a summer evening. I'm sure you'll hear more of it if I do fall for as it as I did for The Decline Of British Sea Power so I'll leave it there for now.
I'm not sure if I mentioned previously that I am helping Andy, our singer, to start a record label - I think I may have said something on Shanks' journal, possibly not here - but helping I am. In fact it looks like I am going to be company secretary to High Desert Music ltd. To begin with we will be releasing material by Sequoia and compilations based on a very successful acoustic night that Andy promotes here in Farnham. Our first release will probably be the first Sequoia single, which we are planning for the early part of the summer. It will be available in record shops nationally, through the usual download services and we will be promoting every way we can- if we can get the single into the top 100 (which currently takes shockingly few sales) it will be a very promising start. The first Sequoia album will follow later in the summer. We are currently laying down guide tracks and preparing for a serious amount of studio time in the early part of next month. This is probably the most exciting thing I've ever done and although it will probably come to nothing and leave us stressed out and horrendously in debt I am really happy about it right now.
