Today we sold my Spector bass to someone who didn't get the last bid in on EBay, where it didn't make it's reserve, so I got the money I needed to for it and it was good news. Then I found that we had an outstanding feed bill that needed paying today. For ten pounds more than I got for the bass. Great.

Still, on the up side, we went to Olympia yesterday and it was a really good night out. Those jumps are very high and the arena is surprisingly small when you're right near the edge of it, so they're having to pull tight maneuvres very fast before jumping over ridiculously high jumps. Also, the gent who stood on the back of some horses while long reining a bunch of other ones and jumping over stuff was quite impressive and the agility dogs were amazingly happy.

The shopping was impressive too. Who knew there was that much diamante in the world?

The Olympia jumps are normally around 1m60 which is about 5ft 3 I think.

I saw everything that was on tv. The courses all looked like there were slightly too many jumps in the arena so causing the very tight and twisting turns needed.

Did you see the Shetland Grand National?

We did indeed. The winner was the evillest looking shetland of the lot, it was awesome.

glad the bass went to a good home...diamante? Off the top of my head, I don't even know what that is.

Not all on ugly browbands- it is now to be found on every equestrian accessory including stirrups, riding hats, there was even a company selling posh bras with diamante straps...

I don't mind money, but I do have a problem with it's absence.

I hate the economics that surrond it - no matter how hard you work, you'll never have enough. As soon as you get it, it's gone for survival needs.

I don't like the way that the minute you think "ah, finally I can afford to..." something comes up and eats that money.

Especially when that something is a pony, which it seems to be most of the time. If only they weren't so awesome, eh?

Yeah, I keep thinking we'll be ahead and then something comes around, usually an foreseen emergency (car breaks down, tripped into a metal railing) that sucks that money away... We still have jobs and income, unlike many, so I'm not complaining.

Definitely ranking high on Awesomeness! :D

oo, did you buy Zorro some bling? I bet he'd really thank you for that....

I watched the showjumping on the telly. It was most impressive, 'specially the little 'un that won it.

Unrelated and neither here nor there, but I peek in on that Feel 4 the Horse forum every once in a while and noticed the Grand Prix dressage horse thread. If the spirit moves you, would you mind telling those folks that Anky does, in fact, hack out? I don't defend her riding or her techniques and I'm told that she does hack with draw reins on the horse in case she wants them. I'm not saying there isn't plenty that folks can get legitimately vexed about if they want to do so...but "her horses never get out of the ring!" isn't one of those things.

For example:

http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/news/2008/08/110.shtml

"I think there is maybe two more years left for Salinero and that will be it," she said, "and all I want to do now is ask that Penfold Park can be opened up for me tomorrow so that I can give Salinero a nice hack out."

Etc.

Interesting. I know nothing much about the lady, apart from the whole repulsive rolkur thing, so I'm not fit to comment but the original discussion came from one of our teachers asking her about it.
