A free rein

Looking back I find it is almost 12 months exactly since our first lesson with Julian. It is probably coincidence, but today we were off the lunge for the first time. We got to do steering and everything!

At that point sleepsy_mouse's years of experience showed a whole lot, but both our sessions looked pretty good- a lot better, certainly, than we would have a year ago.

Wow! I didn't know you were studying under someone who studied under Harris and I didn't know you've been doing all of that lunge work! I'm so jealous!

It's made a real difference to our riding just being able to concentrate on position and doing the lunging on a selection of different school horses lets you really get the feel for keeping your position good on varied gaits.

I don't know how big the two are relatively but I know that England would be around half way through the list of states in the US in terms of size. It's really easy to forget how easy it is for us in terms of travelling to the best teachers, clinicians and so on but it really does make a big difference.
