Back now, but I thought I'd try and show you a bit about the town I was visiting. Freiburg is right in the southern corner of Germany, near to Switzerland and France and the capital of the Schwarzwald ( the black forest ) although I didn't notice much in the way of cake.

I rather like the being in a town where you can see mountains, as an English person it has novelty for me.

This river has wide cycle lanes/walkways on each side and then the local dual carriageway goes with one direction on each side of it.

Freiburg is very big on cycling- every pavement was wide and divided into cycle and foot sections. Very nicely designed.

I'm not so great at night photography but this church was really something. The picture was taken from a huge stone foot/tram bridge over the railway lines at the bahnhof.

The same church- this was the view from my window in the hotel. By English standards they don't seem nearly as conservative as we are about building new stuff near historic buildings.

Taken from the bus on the way back to the airport- I just thought this church was a classic bit of german scenery. I only noticed later how the clouds almost exactly reflect the shape of the mountains. Presumably there is some reason for that in terms of air flow and meteorology.

It's certainly worth a visit I think. Also Germans generally seem to be nice. But then in my experience so are americans so you might not even notice...

Heh, the ones after and before it were partly obscured by lorries, so I really can't say it's anything more than luck...

Right, Frieburg's on the long list of places I will occasionally talk about going to.

Oh, and if you like cities with mountains, there's a certain british capital city you should visit. We got million.
