On Sunday we spent as much of the afternoon as we could with the ponies. Zorro was very well behaved, Small was a little more unexpected...

He isn't used to working in the rain because they don't tend to do it much, but he seemed quite full of himself. When [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse put him on the 22' line he decided it was time for running around...

...as fast as he could...

...jumping up and down...

...and generally being a tit.

Bless him, he was very excited so [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse decided to let him off the line and see what he did. Which turned out to be a mixture of being dramatic, playing, and going to talk to the pony in the field by the school and annoying her fieldmate who is convinced he is an 18hh 8-year-old stallion and not a 12hh 35-year-old gelding.

Wheeling off to go for a run.

I love the way this one focussed just on his face as he goes trotting away.

This autumn has had some of the most amazing colours I think I have ever seen and although for the week or so they were at their height we barely saw the sun, it was still stunning. A little past their peak by the start of this week, but this gives an idea of what the boys' field has been like.

Zorro, looking dramatic against the morning sky.

What beautiful poneez!

And I hate to say it, but sometimes they are the most beautiful when they're misbehaving. (Mine too. Specially the rare cold windy days when Mirage actually remembers that she's an Arabian.)

And Zorro is handsome as ever!

Pretty ponies! Small is such a cheeky little welsh pony at heart.

No, Small isn't 35, the little pony he was winding up in the neighbouring field is.

Said pony is, however, still going remarkably strong for an oldie and certainly has plenty of speed and agility, as people tend to find out when he escapes from his field and needs to be retrieved...

He may get in as a horse on a technicality but he clearly has the brain of a pony.

Autumn was gorgeous here too, and it certainly is nice to see all the vivid colors...I think the cold weather winds them up a bit. Small is gorgeous and Zorro is very handsome in his portrait shot.

When I was a kid, whenever Bayberry did anything bad/annoying/difficult we used to say she was a pony by an eighth of an inch and a brain...I think that about covers it.

Oh. I was wondering about a 35yo having that much energy!

Pepsi runs around like an idiot if I take her out in the rain, too. Must be a small pony thing?

I just wish there had been a day when it was at it's height and there had been some more photogenic lighting. That would have been amazing.

Perhaps they used to be bigger and they got wet and shrank. Maybe thats why they get anxious in the rain.

If you try and make him do something he doesn't want to, the 35yo does have that much energy!! I'm often very glad he's no bigger!

It's hard to go wrong when your mane is that much deeper than your neck. And your neck is about twice the depth of the average horse. It's a recipe for dramatic. Also, when the wind blows favourably, heroic.
