Just back from seeing a local band by the name of Big Wednesday play at The Star in Guildford and it was awesome. They have been making a name for themselves for the last couple of years with their blend of big accessible tunes and a kick-ass live show and they seem to have reached a place where it's pretty much at boiling point. The room was packed, everyone was going for it and the audience demanded a second encore, which the band didn't seem to expect at all. It was a brilliant night and I would be amazed if they are still playing venues this size a year from now.

It's good to hear about other people out Swansea way thinking about learning to ninj as well- I really hope that you all enjoy it. I still love it and every training session now is as fresh as it ever was. Just never allow yourself to be deceived into thinking you understand it because you don't. You kind of think "oh, I really get that now" and then six months later you realize you completely didn't get it at all and you only thought you did. I've done it loads of times. I will probably want to retract even having said any of this six months from now as it will somehow no longer make sense. You learn things and then you have to break them down again before they get in the way of the other things you need to learn. It's great.

On a side note, thank-you very much to whoever bought me the Dave Lowry book for my birthday- Amazon neglected to actually tell me who it was, so I'm slightly unsure...

Ninjing starts tomorrow! Don't worry, I won't be disappointed if I a have to do a few sit-ups before they break out the nunchukas and teach me to kill.

I wouldn't worry about sit ups too much - you'll just need to do a bunch of rolls I expect. We always do minimal warm up, possibly because our teachers don't like to exert themselves too much. It's more that when you are learning to kill you quickly begin to think you understand what a technique is getting at but you don't -you think you do, but you're wrong.

that'll be me who sent you the book - amazon suck, i put a message on it and everything!

no ninjaing for me - it clashes with my pirate commitments, but i'm getting pretty violent at kick boxing

Thank you very much! It had the message, but it didn't have any sort of "from" element to it, so I was a bit baffled.

The underlying principles of position and timing are pretty much the same for all martial arts, they are just applied differently- kickboxing is more sporty (and better exercise) and competetive whereas ninjing is less sporting and more brutal.

kickboxing is the pirate way of doing things

when they aren't using a sword

or drunk on grog

or too lazy
