I have been having odd hot flushes and general sensations of overheating the last couple of days, particularly after drinking tea or coffee. I was starting to worry that something was up with me but it turns out that in a vain attempt to stop ourselves from freezing over Easter weekend we turned up the thermostat a bit and we hadn't turned it back down since.

Also, now that I've tried it, I would say that this is the problem with World of Warcraft. It looks beautiful, but all there is to the game is a few mission templates varied only in the number of foozles you need to kill. I don't really have the time or dedication to build up a character to the point where I'll actually be able to hang out with the other guys in the guild who are all at 70 now and probably about to ramp things up for the Wash Of The Kitchen expansion so I'll probably leave it- in the last couple of months it has cost approximately £7.50 per hour spent in game and that's not really a smart economy by anyone's book.

I hear that the Warhammer MMMPOROGPROGOIERPPROGORGGRG is likely to have everyone wanting to play so perhaps I'll get that and enjoy playing the lower level stuff with everyone else, although I doubt I'll have the ability to keep up as I'm increasingly the most casual of gamers imaginable. I still enjoy games but I rarely have more than 45 minutes or an hour to dedicate to playing them and I quite want something that I can pick up and drop but still enjoy playing in the interrim. I'm difficult to please sometimes.

Also, MMPGROPORPGORORGS are weird because all your actions in-game feel so utterly contingent and insignificant- there is no way to make the player feel like they are doing anything awesome and world-changing or even mildly impressive, you just feel like you're grinding mobs and killing foozles. On the upside, I will now be able to understand conversations about healspecced pallys, aggro-grinding mob drops and ganking over peoples nubs, so that's nice.

Would you mind coming and explaining this sensible attitude to gaming to my friends please?

And you know you're spending too much time with teenage boys when the first thing that comes to mind seeing "ganking over peoples nubs" is undescribably dirty...

Absolutely not, I always thought ganking sounded pretty dubious and when nubs are involved, well, it's quite possibly beyond the pale.

Most of the time I would once have spent gaming is dedicated to ponies in some way these days. Maybe you just need to introduce your friends to your horses... :)

If there are enough people playing that I know I may give it a bash, as my major gripe with WoW was that everyone I knew were gargantu-megagods by the time I started playing.

I think I'm gonna hold out for it cos I think a lot of people who are awesome will be playing for a while.

Apparently some people feel the look is a little similar- others disagree (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/04/10/).

If I can get on the UK servers, then you have my sword. And possibly Tom's axe, I dunno, that's up to him really..

I mean WoW is OK, but it's no Dwarven Fortress and that is something nobody can deny.
