It's been a good weekend- we have been able to ride both days, cunning use of various weather forecasts suggesting it would be sunny Saturday morning (maybe an exaggeration but it didn't rain) so we got up early to ride out and did a little hack on the common on Saturday, getting back to the yard just as the heavy weather really kicked in.

Today was much sunnier than either the BBC or the Met Office suggested it would be so we took the boys out for a rather longer loop around the common.

It was really nice to be riding out and Zorro was really mellow and happy when we got back. I think this was mostly because he was knackered but he is a horse with a very strong work ethic so I think he actually really likes having a job to do and knowing he has done it well. I find the opportunity to work on my riding for a couple of hours at a stretch immensely valuable as well as enjoying being outside with our horses in the gorgeous scenery with the feeling that spring is really starting to uncurl.

At one point on today's ride it started to rain, but the sun was still shining and as we were riding into the light it was as though it was raining diamonds. Simply beautiful.

After riding on Saturday morning, our horribly moulting beasts got to go out without rugs for a while, until it started pouring again. [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse appears to have located the itchy spot here.

For the full treatment, don't forget to really grind your ears and the side of your face into the ground, otherwise people may still be able to tell you are a grey pony.

"Rain" said the Met Office, but to me that looks more like "sunny with scattered showers."

The view you might get if you were riding Zorro and inexplicably leaning right over to one side to watch him splash through a puddle.

Small pony has learned the valuable lesson that puddles do not conceal crocodiles or indeed any other dangerous predators.

It promises to be amusing. I'm cracking up just putting it together. X]

Small pony cracks me up, especially since my own grey pony used to do very similar things. She was second place in a 'dirtiest horse of the year' photo contest once. :-) Small could win for sure!

Cool pic of Zorro crossing a puddle. I can tell yr much taller than me...Zorro looks so far down from where you took the picture from!

Ditto! Neat pictures!

How tall is Zorro?

Thanks! :-D

I still think Small is really a Welsh Pony, he's not really as tall as Piceur, he's small like Curly. Him and Curly would get on very well I think :-)

I like watching the ponies splashing through puddles too! However, whilst all the puddles in the field are safe, every puddle outside the field has crocodiles in them... except the one into the farm gate that is, that puddle is safe too. I would like ponies who dont mind puddles!

He's about 15'2. I would look a bit silly on him with my great dangly legs if it wasn't for the fact he's almost as wide as he is tall...

They're good when they don't mind puddles, they can be a little pesky when they love puddles and have to jump in them splash around, snuffle, drink a bit of extra-muddy water and then refuse to go anywhere. I'm glad to say Zorro does that less now than he has in the past, but they are still quite exciting.

It really was. Everything we had hoped the bank holiday weekend would be before the weather thwarted us.

Oh I don't think you'd look silly on him. I think I do with my 15hh mare though. But then again she is on the wider side.

Thanks. :-D

LOL. Oki, so that second photo - it's like you've just rotated the first photo. XD Did [livejournal.com profile] sleepsy_mouse freeze him with the magical enchanting itchy spot in the first picture, and then push him over?

Also, I love the clouds in the third photo and the one of Zorro splashing through a puddle. :3

It does look a lot that way actually- it's not really that she needed to push him over, he was leaning on her so much for maximum scratchies she just needed to get out of the way...

Or as I now realise I should have said:

"Looking the same upright as flat on the floor? That's just the way Small Pony rolls."

:D
