Busy weekend
10 February 2008 22:26After a busy week, a busy weekend. The gig on friday went well. One song a little shonky, the others pretty good.
We spent most of Saturday at the yard playing with ponies. Small went out for an adventure and Zorro and I were going to go for a walk but Small came back while he was still being brushed to within an inch of his life. He did go out looking very grand though, with his mane and his feathers all ever so dramatic in the late afternoon sun. I have no idea why I didn't take any pictures but the chances are it's cos I'm a dumbass.
We spent the evening at the EMW Barn Boogie, which was a kick-ass party and successfully raised a very good amount of money for a very deserving cause. As occasionally happens there were a few people I almost didn't recognise looking smart with their hair done nicely and make-up on because I'm only accustomed to seeing them dressed for horses. I hit my booze limit ( about 3 1/2 pints ) by the end of the evening and was quite definitely cheerful. The Auction went really well and raised a lot more money than I think anyone expected.
We spent the night in the hotel where the Boogie was held and it was really nice seeing everyone at breakfast and hearing the EMW team talking about the things they'll be able to do with the money raised and how it will help the horses in their care.
We headed home via Kerin's yard where we visited our charming friend Joseph Pony. He has been living out on clay all winter and he is about as muddy as you might expect an unrugged native cob who has grown a 4-inch winter coat and loves rolling to be. There is a lot of clay on him at the moment that will only come off when he sheds his coat (something he has given an enthusastic start to in the last week or so) and his feathers are horrible but- in a tribute to excellent design - his heels are totally dry.
He is so happy living in his field with a mare to boss around and lots of mud to roll in that he has more or less come sound, so
sleepsy_mouse was able to bring him in and have a bit of a ride. I'm sure she'll elaborate if she so chooses, but it was absolutely brilliant to see them working together again and Joe seemed very pleased with the whole arrangement.
It's been a knackering weekend, but really good fun. I just wish I had a working pony with whom I could enjoy the weather. The Chiro is coming to check him again on Tuesday- our morning constitutionals had helped but not eliminated the problem so she's going to take another look and see what she finds.

Date: 11 Feb 2008 00:20 (UTC)thanks btw for sending the trekker link to me...haven't absolutely decided yet whether or not I will buy it, but it certainly is tempting and does look to be a very nice saddle at a decent price.
glad joe pony is the picture of horsey happiness and health, and sorry to hear that zorro is still being a gimpy old man. he and sage need to cut it out. seriously.
ok, off to type a one-handed post about my own horsey weekend.
